ASLA Diversity Summit Report Juanita Shearer-Swink, FASLA, and Terry Poltrack, Director of PR & Communications, reported on the 2013 ASLA Diversity Summit, held in Alexandria, VA, in July. The Diversity Summit attendees honed in on key paths, aids, and obstacles encountered in entering the profession and came up with priorities and suggested action items for ASLA to consider for the next year. Strategies for working on three main action items - awareness, mentoring, and early exposure were suggested as the end result of the meeting. ASLA is committed to acting on strategies to address the issues the Summit attendees raised, which will ultimately enrich the landscape architecture community. Fellows Endowment Fund Based on an idea that came out of last years business meeting, a legacy campaign for COF was created called the Fellows Endowment Fund. Chair Caughey and ASLA secretary Curt Millay walked attendees through the new planned giving site administered through LAF, which enables donors to give in many different ways and at many levels to the COF Scholarship Fund. Swearing-in of New Officers Chair Caughey swore in the new officers for 2013-1015: Susan L.B. Jacobson, FASLA, 2013-2015, Chair Kurt C. Culbertson, FASLA, 2013-15 Chair-elect Judy B. Brittenum, FASLA, 2013-15 Secretary-elect Ann M. Milovsoroff, FASLA, 2013-15 Member-at-Large-elect New Business Chair Caughey took the opportunity to discuss the responsibility of Fellows as a group to give back to society and to the profession with programs like the ACE Mentor program. Receiving the designation of Fellow is only the starting point. It is time to take action and take advantage of the Council of Fellows as a group. Especially during these times, before we lose more young graduates, Fellows have a strong responsibility to provide a level of mentoring to those who are displaced. Fellows have to keep interested in the profession, reconnect to your chapters. There will be more discussion in the next year about this. Adjourn There being no further business at 9:30am on Monday, November 18, 2013, the meeting adjourned.
